About
About this event
The exhibition offers a fresh reading of the garden of the Benlliure House-Studio through drawings by José and Peppino Benlliure. The House-Museum holds a rich and valuable graphic collection that sheds light not only on their artistic practice, but also on their interest in architectural design and in the shaping of domestic and garden space. The research behind the exhibition has made it possible to study and interpret a set of sketches that were little known or previously unpublished, directly linked to the house, studio, and family garden on Blanqueries Street. Through these drawings, the Benlliures’ direct involvement in the various extensions and renovations carried out between the late XIX century and the first decades of the 20th century becomes clear, as does the close relationship between those architectural changes and the design of the garden. The exhibition is arranged in several sections that trace the garden’s evolution, from the inherited horticultural space to the planned garden, conceived as a representative setting and a stage for the painter’s family and social life. The drawings reveal an ongoing process of experimentation with multiple options for the studio, the house, and the outdoor areas, as well as a particular focus on the garden’s built elements. The exhibition can be visited until 13 September, Tuesday to Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm and 3 pm to 7 pm, and on Sundays and public holidays from 10 am to 2 pm.
