About
About this event
A media lumbre (A mig foc) brings together contemporary artistic proposals that open up space for materials long placed in subordinate positions, including ceramics, clay, wool, textiles, embroidery, esparto, palm, wicker and other natural fibres. Sound and silence are also part of this material field. The exhibition gives voice to oral tradition as a vehicle for memory, recalling the old filandons, evening gatherings around the hearth where people carried out handwork by the shared warmth of the fire. Through the works and their varied material forms, the exhibition approaches non-hegemonic forms of knowledge linked to the land, such as craft, trades and local traditions. It also highlights the need to preserve vernacular knowledge as part of an intangible heritage made up of oral traditions, memories, popular wisdom and collective forms of care.
