About
About this event
"A media lumbre" brings together contemporary artistic practices that open space for materials long treated as secondary: ceramics, clay, wool, textiles, embroidery, esparto grass, palm, wicker, and other natural fibres. Sound and silence are also part of this material field. Voice appears as a central element, affirming oral tradition as a vehicle for memory, much like the old "filandons"—night gatherings around the hearth where people carried out handwork in the warmth of a shared fire. Through the works and their varied material forms, the exhibition approaches non-hegemonic forms of knowledge rooted in place: craft, trades, and traditions tied to the land. Safeguarding vernacular knowledge means preserving not only techniques and making practices, but also an intangible heritage made up of oral traditions, memories, popular knowledge, and collective affinities. It is a heritage held at half-flame, shaped by the slow rhythm of shared gestures and inherited practices. Artists include Ana Laura Aláez, Pilar Albarracín, Javier Bravo, Saskia Calderón, Susana Cámara Leret, Ricardo Calero, Ana Esteve Llorens, Antonio Fernández Alvira, Marta Font, Julie C. Fortier, Josefina Guilisasti, Noemi Iglesias Barrios, Mónica Jover, Cecilia Jurado Chueca, Glenda León, Sandra Mar, Adriana Meunié, Sonia Navarro, Lara Ordóñez, Nuria Riaza, Belén Rodriguez, Laura Segura, Isabel Servera, Laurita Siles, Jessica Stockholder, Sarah Viguer, and Concha Ybarra.
