The exhibition traces a little-known chapter that began after the Chernobyl disaster of 26 April 1986, when the fourth reactor at the Vladimir Ilyich Lenin nuclear power plant exploded and sent radioactive fallout across much of Europe. It focuses on the children from Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, and Moldova who were taken to Cuba for free medical treatment between 1990 and 2011, and on the documents, photographs, sound recordings, audiovisual materials, and objects gathered to reconstruct that history.
