About this event
The artist’s work examines the value of the image and its narrative potential. It considers the tension between the idea of documentary photography as a faithful record of reality and the more interpretive, constructed nature often associated with the arts, especially painting. Císcar, who specializes in Contemporary Thought and Visual Culture, works from appropriated old photographs, archival material, and press images, which she translates into painterly form through a complex process of assembling, blurring, recomposing, and juxtaposing the originals. This deconstructive approach allows her to rethink and reactivate the material, overturn certain visual imaginaries, and question the politics of visibility. The result is a body of hybrid paintings that may retain the appearance of documentary evidence while carrying an unsettling sense of strangeness.
