About

About this event

The exhibition "175" years at the heart of Valencia traces the birth and development of the Escola d’Art i Superior de Disseny de València, a key institution in the city’s cultural life. Featuring more than one hundred works, it spans 175 years of history in the same building where the former School of Arts and Crafts was founded in 1850, now the Centre del Carme Cultura Contemporània, with the aim of improving Valencian craftsmanship. For more than a century, the school trained thousands of students in applied arts and artistic trades, contributing to the city’s industrial growth. From the 1960s onward, it added new fields such as interior design, graphic design, fashion, product design, photography, and jewellery, becoming a reference point for educational renewal and international reach. Made entirely with work by EASD alumni, the exhibition links past and future while highlighting the institution’s heritage and the challenges and opportunities facing design education in the XXI century.
