About this event
In 2026, Valencia marks 700 years of the Corpus Christi celebration, one of the city’s most emblematic festivals and one of its deepest historical traditions. To commemorate the anniversary, the National Museum of Ceramics and Decorative Arts "González Martí" presents "La Festa Grossa. El Corpus en el Museo", an exhibition that invites visitors to rediscover the tradition through the museum’s collections. The display brings together works that illuminate both the material and intangible dimensions of the festival, from the "Cabalgata del Convit" and the procession to the dances, characters, and symbolic elements that have shaped the celebration over the centuries. Many of the pieces entered the museum thanks to the work of its founder and first director, Manuel González Martí, who was closely connected to Valencia’s cultural life. Through tiles, clothing, documents, and other testimonies, the exhibition offers a historical view of how Corpus Christi has evolved in Valencia while also highlighting its continued relevance as living heritage. Declared an Intangible Asset of Cultural Interest in 2010, the festival remains a collective expression supported by institutions and associations committed to its preservation and transmission. The exhibition also underscores the museum’s role in research, conservation, and the dissemination of cultural heritage, while joining in the commemoration of a celebration that is central to the city’s memory and identity.
