About
About this event
A project created specifically for IVAM’s Gallery 6 by Andrea Canepa (Lima, 1980), this immersive installation spans both floors of the space and is linked by an intervention across the staircase. Through geometric structures, modular pieces and large colored forms made with materials such as fabric, thread, tiles, wood, earth and glass, the artist reflects on how time is perceived. The lower floor evokes what lies beneath the surface, suggesting a cave, an underworld or a maternal womb, with layered elements and low lighting that reinforce a sense of interiority. On the upper floor, a metal line runs around the room like a horizon and is interrupted by sculptures that alter its path. The work also draws on the pre-Columbian Andean system of ceques, sacred lines that connected the center of a city with the horizon and linked sacred sites to the calendar.
