Territories in Transit / Solo Duo: I Call You Body. Irene Grau & Marco Giordano

ExhibitionIVAM

About this event

"Et dic cos" is part of the exhibition cycle "Territories in Transit / Solo Duo", a platform for exchange and visibility that connects artists from different institutional and geographic contexts. The cycle sets up a dialogue between two creators: one invited by a partner institution and the other linked to the Valencian Community, creating a shared itinerary across two venues and two exhibition periods. This format encourages the crossing of perspectives, languages, and territories, while fostering collaborative networks that broaden the reach of contemporary artistic practice. The exhibition "Et dic cos" brings together the practices of Marco Giordano and Irene Grau. At its core is the relationship and tension between the body and the more-than-human world, understood as a broad horizon that includes plant and mineral species as well as the infrastructures that shape urban ecosystems. The title refers to the act of recognizing more-than-human, natural, or artificial elements as bodies or subjects with their own essence, with which one enters into contact. Each artist develops this relational dynamic through different positions, methods, and techniques. For Irene Grau, her own body is the medium through which she engages with the natural landscape, moving through it, inhabiting it, and using it as a basis for a coherent artistic practice. Her works often emerge from performative actions and are not only traces or records of these processes, but also systems in which natural matter becomes a vocabulary that converses with the history of painting and landscape. In Marco Giordano’s practice, the body is never shown directly but is always implied. His research begins with language, sound, and materials in order to build a sculptural language that is intrinsically performative. His work often involves the recomposition and transformation of matter as an act capable of questioning contemporary social phenomena that reveal political tensions. "Et dic cos" brings together existing works by Irene Grau and Marco Giordano, along with new productions by both artists made specifically for the museum spaces, spanning painting, photography, sculpture, and installation.
