Domestika

The Sala Parpalló at MUVIM is hosting the exhibition "Domestika" by Valencian artist JARR until October. The show invites visitors to reflect on the emotional relationship people have with the objects that shape their lives. It grows out of experimentation with materials rather than preconceived ideas, using threads, knots and other textures to reclaim the domestic, the feminine and textile craft as tools for contemporary creation. For JARR, every object carries its own history and an accumulated energy that changes over time with the life of its owner or former owner. The exhibition is organised into three sections that trace the main lines of research developed by the artist over more than three decades. The first introduces a dark visual world in which nudes, veils and domestic presences appear suspended between memory and disappearance, with textile work turned into archive and image into trace. The second brings together assemblages, found objects, appropriated images and fragments of visual culture to build the foundations of JARR’s universe, using irony and critique to examine consumer culture and the contradictions of the present. The final section presents painting as an expanded field in which abstraction, object and appropriated image no longer function as separate categories but as part of a single relational structure. In this context, the pictorial gesture shifts toward the knot, pigment adheres to the memory of surfaces, and found images are layered with experience, turning the work into a record of a life, a remnant and a form of ritual.
