Antonio Palomino and the Baroque Night

The Museum of Fine Arts of València (MuBAV) has presented the exhibition "Antonio Palomino and the Baroque Night", the first devoted to the work and artistic output of the Baroque painter and writer on art Acisclo Antonio Palomino de Castro y Velasco (1655-1726), marking the third centenary of his death and developed in collaboration with the National Library of Spain. It is the first monographic exhibition on his work and presents it in full complexity through paintings, drawings, prints, literary production, and pictorial theory. A total of 65 works are on view, loaned by 20 museums and national institutions. Organized into four sections, the exhibition examines Palomino’s ties to the Spanish monarchy, his view of painting as a theological art, his figurative reflections on the mystery of the Immaculate Conception, his extensive mural production, especially in València, his involvement in public festivities, and the reception of his treatise on painting.
